THE
4TH ANNUAL CAPITAL LINK FORUM CONFERENCE "GREECE: YOUR EMU PARTNER IN SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE"
THE AMERICAN-HELLENIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce is one of the largest and most active American chambers in Europe. The Chamber aims to promote the development of Greek-American relations in the economic and business field and to promote an increase in trade and development between the two countries. It seeks to acquaint and inform the American business community, abroad and resident in Greece, with the economic environment and business practices of the host country; to represent the American business community vis-à-vis government departments and agencies; to aid and assist investors in their respective countries and to provide a forum for an exchange of views on matters of mutual business and commercial interest. The Chamber sponsors some of the leading conferences, exhibitions, and investment events in Greece. It organizes and sponsors the Hour of the Greek Economy conference that annually examines the course of the Greek economy, and the Thessaloniki Forum, that delves into regional economic cooperation and Balkan reconstruction. Both have become paramount Southeast European assemblies that draw the participation of the Prime Minister, leader of the opposition Costas Karamanlis, Prime Ministers, ministers from throughout the region, and major personalities from the world of business, politics, and finance. In November 1999, the Chamber co-organized and hosted the state address of President Clinton during his visit to Greece. The Chamber works closely on numerous events and projects with the American Embassy and Ambassador R. Nicholas Burns. Virtually all American companies that do business in Greece are members of the Chamber as are most Greek companies that engage in trade with the United States. The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit organization and is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. and the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce (ECACC). It is recognized for its "Chamber Best Practices" employing sound business practices to promote business. In cooperation with Key3Media Events, the Chamber organizes COMDEX Greece, the largest information technology exhibition in Southeast Europe. COMDEX 2001 will take place February 15-18, 2001 at the Helexpo Exhibition Center in Athens. In September 2000, the Chamber became the official trade representative in Greece of the New Jersey Commerce and Economic Growth Commission, the first such agreement made by a U.S. state in Greece. The Chamber publishes the bimonthly magazine Greek-American Trade and an Annual Directory, valuable resources for doing business in Greece.
