December 21, 2006 Alpha Bank has signed an agreement with Euroleague Basketball to become its Official Bank in Greece for the 2006-2007 Euroleague Final Four, scheduled to be held in Athens from 4 to 6 May 2007. Europe's premier basketball competition, Euroleague Basketball was founded in 2000, introducing the concept of a professional league to Europe and expanding its television reach beyond Europe, with attendance of the Euroleague Basketball matches increasing by 82%. The competition features 24 clubs from 12 or more countries per season, with the champion crowned each spring at the Euroleague Final Four, one of the signature events of European sports.
Euroleague Basketball Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jordi Bertomeu made the following statement: “We believe it is of great importance that tight relationships with strong local partners are developed in order to create social, economic and political synergy with the local community and the Final Four. As such we are very pleased with this partnership, nevertheless we know much work still lies ahead to make this Final Four even better than the last one. We firmly believe that this objective will finally be reached, as the Greek community has shown us. There are many companies and individuals that are very eager and excited to make this happen, but most importantly have proven to have the know-how to collaborate with major sport events".
