Athens Exchange
Launch of new website
September 17, 2002 Launch of new website – “Invest in the Greek Capital Market”: www.invest-in-gcm.com A new website promoting Greece’s capital market to foreign investors is launched today, part of the Athens Exchange’s continuing programme of information dissemination about its activities.

The new site presents the main arguments for foreign investment in the Greek market and describes in detail the procedures involved.

As to why foreign investors should choose the Greek market, the site refers to the measures in place to ensure the transparent operation of the market and the effective flow of information to investors. The statistical data available from the Greek market is also reviewed: on prices of individual shares and the composition of share price indices; on listed companies and their capitalization; on p/e ratios; on daily volumes of trading on the Athens Exchange; etc.

As far as trading procedures are concerned, the site explains how the necessary registration can be made, both by domestic and foreign investors.

Extensive details about the functioning of the trading system are provided: what it offers to investors, the types of orders which may be entered and the clearing procedures applying in the shares and derivatives markets.

Also presented is an overview and analysis of the Greek capital market as a whole, including the regulatory and institutional framework which governs its operation.

Another section covers the individual markets of the Athens Exchange (the shares, bond and derivatives markets, the New Market and the Greek Market for Emerging Capital Markets), describing how they operate and how transparency is ensured.

Considerable detail is provided about investor protection arrangements and the way these are reinforced by continuous monitoring of market transactions and by the imposition of sanctions by the supervisory authorities in cases of insider trading or share price manipulation.

Another important section reviews the state of the Greek economy covering issues such as the tax regime and long-term economic prospects (including GDP, inflation, interest rates and other macro-economic indices). Key economic data is presented including a short national history and discussion of Greece’s unique geopolitical status, political system, demographic trends and telecommunications and communications systems.

News about important developments – such as preparations for the forthcoming 2004 Athens Olympic Games, progress with structural reform of the economy and liberalization of the telecommunications and energy sectors – allow potential investors objectively to assess the investment opportunities that exist in the Greek stock market.

The new site at www.invest-in-gcm.com will operate in parallel with the existing site at www.ase.gr, providing investors an effective source of up-to-date information about Greek stock market developments and the opportunities they provide.

The site www.invest-in-gcm.com was constructed by e2b.gr, while its development and updating will be the responsibility of Systems Development and Capital Market Support S.A.(ASYK), a member company of the Hellenic Exchanges (HELEX) group (Hellenic Exchanges (Holding) S.A., www.helex.gr)
